WHAT ARE TRIBAL AREA?

Tribal areas are difficult to reach territories, mostly located in the Northeast of the country, in which 8.6% of Indian population currently lives, 100 million people more or less. Those who live in these zones are called Kondareddis, Valmiki, Adivasi, meaning in Hindi “original inhabitants”.
As a matter of fact, Adivasi are direct descendants of those communities that lived in India before Arya’s arrival, that would be our current Indians. During theese centuries Adivasi took refuge in isolated and inaccessible areas, where they learnt to live in direct contact with nature, from which they obtain what they need to survive. Indigenous tribes are part of the poorer level of Indian population and are afflicted by poverty more than other citizens of other countries do.

WHAT ARE TRIBAL AREA?

SOME DETAILS

During 2015-2016, as the National Family Health Survey demonstrated, 45.9% of Indigenous was part of the poorest level of population, versus the 18.3% of members of disadvantaged castes and 25.3% of those whose caste was unknown.
In the last 10 years, reduction in poverty levels looked marginal and did not exceeded 4%. More than two third of indigenous people is afflicted by serious poverty levels, a third of children under 5 is afflicted by malnutrition and is underweight. Physical isolation of non-tribal communities and the lack of resources led to the birth of negative stereotypes: Adivasi are considered non-civilized and primitive groups, without any ability. These stereotypes are frequently used as a justification for exclusion from some social services and economic opportunities.

SOME DETAILS

DEKKAPURAM

Living on the margins of society, the majority of Adivasi does not have access to education and, as a result, is illiterate. As a matter of fact, in tribal areas both the school structures and teachers are missing, and for this reason we decided to intervene promoting projects in the educational field.

In Vishakhapatnam district, we identified big ones close to the village Dekkapuram, in which, due to the terrible conditions of schools and due to the low quality of teaching, less than half of population is able to read and write.
Therefore, in order to promote literacy of these people, we decided to intervene with the construction of a model school with a general support to education for training teachers, supply educational material and raise awareness in the community on educational importance.

In the coming months, we will continue to support Dekkapuram School with ordinary maintenance activities of the school, continuous training for teachers and the community on the importance of education as an instrument of emancipation, through the supply of school material.

This is what we do:
